How to measure a hose for a clamp

Measure the outside diameter of the hose when it is fitted on the pipe, in millimetres. Choose a clamp whose range covers that size, ideally near the middle of the range. Not sure? Send a photo of the old clamp.

BSP or NPT?

BSP / BSPT are British threads (55°), common on Indian and European equipment; BSP is parallel, BSPT tapered. NPT is the American taper thread (60°). They look alike but do not seal together. Send us a photo or the old part and we will identify it.

Which clamp material?

Plated mild steel for general, dry and indoor use · SS 202 for better rust resistance at a lower cost · SS 304 for outdoor, washdown and coolant · SS 316 for marine, chemical and coastal sites. T-bolt clamps come in SS 202 with a plated bolt as standard; SS 304 and SS 316 against order. Materials table →

Five mistakes that cause leaks

  1. Wrong torque: too tight crushes the hose, too loose slips.
  2. Buying on price only: leaks and downtime cost more.
  3. Wrong material: plated steel rusts in wet areas.
  4. Ignoring pressure and vibration: use heavy duty, T-bolt or spring types.
  5. Wrong clamp type for the job: ask us.
